I found an in-dash double-DIN monitor (Pioneer AVH - P4000DVD) I really want to buy for my boyfriend for Christmas, problem is it supposedly won't fit his '99 F250. I can't find any double-DIN monitors that say they will fit. Has anyone installed one and did it take any kind of customization?
Alternatively, any suggestions on a good single-DIN with motorized screen that will work in that model truck?
that one can be installed - I know someone who has that exact monitor. Check with a reputable installed in your area about it.
For the single flip out, I have the Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD and LOVE it ... has a TON of features, and just about anything can be connected to it - including a USB drive for pictures or music. The default feature on it is to open when you start the vehicle, and close when you turn it off so it looks fairly "plain jane" to a thief's eyes.
The ipod portion is NICE. You need a cable to connect it - but you just hide the ipod somewhere like the glove box and it's truly plug and play. The ipod becomes a "source" choice and the touch screen is the ipod controller.
Also you can go to www.crutchfields.com and enter your vehicle info and it will tell you what will and won't work fit wise to include recommened accessorys.

He is mechanically inclined, I'm just curious if I'd be setting him up to damage the dash during install. Do you know how involved the install was for the guy with the same monitor or did he have it done professionally?
I checked out the P5000 that you have too but for the price, I'd rather go with the double-din and not risk the motorized screen breaking.
I'm not 100% sure how involved it was .. I know it required some cutting .. I had a stereo shop install mine and he did the other truck as well - for what it's worth this is my second motorized screen unit (last one was a Clarion) and have yet (knock wood) to have it fail.
i have that unit in my 06 and i love it the only thing is it will not charge a fourth gen ipod cause apple changed the plug configuration. scoshe makes an adapter to solve that problem its like 30 bucks
y dont you try an eclipse double din I know they fit perfectly and they have an 18 month warranty if its stolen they will replace it bc of a security disc
