4X4 Question

Sorry to post about another 4X4 question but i have been reading other post to try to solve my problem but maybe someone can help me. i have a 2000 f-250 auto 5.4l with the ESOF 4X4. had it in auto and in 4 and it was not working cause my rear end was sliding. then later on it stared working again when i got stuck.. Im guessing vacuum leak? my vents dont switch to defrost. but im new at this ESOF stuff. so where can i check for vacuum leaks if that might be the problem. thanks

Check the vacuum lines that go to the knuckle behind the wheel.They tend to rot away.Easy fix.

Easiest way to check the front hubs is turn them to LOCK and see if you have 4x4. If that works, go back and start checking the auto-locking system.

it does lock when i turn it to lock. i found on the drivers side the line was loose fixed that and it worked for about 5 min then became disengaged. tried it again and only engaged for about 30 seconds to a min. all other lines look good thinking maybe the hub itself is leaking or could it be the vaccum solinoid?

If the hubs are locking for the initial vacuum pulse (approximately 45 seconds) and then one unlocks, sounds like the hub itself is not latching - which usually means the latch is broken. That's what happened to mine.

You might want to get used to manually locking them.
