I found an in-dash double-DIN monitor (Pioneer AVH - P4000DVD) I really want to buy for my boyfriend for Christmas, problem is it supposedly won't fit his '99 F250. I can't find any double-DIN monitors that say they will fit. Has anyone installed one and did it take any kind of customization?
Alternatively, any suggestions on a good single-DIN with motorized screen that will work in that model truck?
The hole is about a 1/4 of an inch too small, I have a double din in mine and I managed to get it in and it looks great. If he is mechanically inclined, then he should be able to install it just fine.

I checked with a local installer and he confirmed it's too small but that it can be done - no telling how long it would take, at $70/hour. He is mechanically inclined, I'm just curious if I'd be setting him up to damage the dash at all. How involved was your install?
All it takes is trimming the upper and lower lip on the dash. That lip is currently hidden behind the trim of the stock radio, and it will also be hidden behind the trim of the new unit you install. A dremel tool takes care of it in about 5 minutes. That allows the opening to be big enough for a DDIN headunit.
After that, it just needs to be mounted. You can used the supplied brackets that come with the Pioneer, or you can get creative and come up with your own mount. Either way, it's not that hard to do.
