Does anybody know if Jody can make it down shift through the gears(4th,3rd 2nd,1st) when in the decel mode for more engine breaking.Right now it holds to 45mph and then goes to idle. What is the lowest speed that the converter can stay locked.
Jody set mine to downshift into 3rd, and keep the T/C locked in 3rd down to something like 26 mph. Last time I talked to him, he could not force the PSD's to downshift into 2nd or 1st on decel. Something about how the PCM wouldn't accept it. Maybe he's figured it out by now, might want to ask Diane, or maybe she'll chime in on this thread and let us know for sure. But as far as I know, the way mine downshifts is what Jody can currently do.
Guess I should add I don't have decel tune and does the same stock
I don't have the decel tune either.
In stock settings, my torque converter will unlock and it will coast as I come to a stop, just like on a bone stock truck with a VDHx PCM. My downshift strategies are programmed into the tow and economy tunes only. So my downshifting that I described in the post above only applies to those two tunes. My extreme tune does not have a downshift strategy, it just works like stock as I slow down to a stop.
All 4 of my tunes (stock, tow, econo, and extreme) have different up-shift strategies that suit my driving style, and also work well with the altitude here. For example, in my economy tune (which is what my truck is in 99% of the time) my truck will not shift into overdrive until at least 49 mph. I can drive at 48 mph all day long and it will stay in 3rd with the torque converter locked. This keeps me from lugging the engine, especially when driving uphill at higher altitudes. So that reduces my smoke, lowers my EGT's, and keeps me from having to downshift more often. Works great on mountain passes.
The way my DECEL tune from Jody worked it would defuel, lock the TC and close the EBPV. When in that tune I could manually downshift. I typically only used it in 3rd and down shifting to 2nd and was able to go as slow as 15 MPH. I never went slow enough to kill the engine but with this tune you can't come to a stop without the engine dying. Maybe it could be tuned to release the TC at an appropriate RPM but I don't know. Unfortunately my decel tune is pretty much useless since I went to a non-EBPV turbo exhaust outlet.
Mine sounds sorta like a Jake brake. It definitely has that brrrmmmmmmmmmmp noise to it. I have a straight pipe and stock 3 and half exhaust still though.
