ok ive done alot of research on fixin my prolbem that has been going on for a while now. by looking through forms and searching i found some one who has had encounterd the same prolbems as i. its gotta be my brake booster. where do i get one that is a hydrabooster. i looked in a few shops online and all i found was vaccum boosters. where can i find a hydrabooster, how much are they and are they difficult to install
baker ur truck got a noisy/humming sound? or ur brakes/steering fail completly?
My pump whines like a baby and im slowly narrowing it down to either the gear bohighly dougt it) and the hydro boost(will replace next weekend)
Ur gonna get a reman unless u buy a new one for like $500....im not trying to take away from FTE partsguy but the best deal i found is at orileys. $150+$50 core...cuz they got 5 stores within 50miles of FT HOOD.
All you gota do to replace is take the two nuts off the master cylinder let it fall forward, take off the 3 rubber lines, two will be fittings. Go inside and unclip the brake pedal from the rod and then the 4 nuts on the firewall then reverse for install.
Since u got the system open...ide go ahead and do a full flush with Mobil 1 SYN...it helped quiet mine down but she still cries.
thanks fordbronc yea its a grinding vibration sounding noise. i replaced my pump and flushed w/ mobil syn atf. still got the niose. steering works and brakes work. i get the noise after its warmed up and after i come to a stop. sittin at a red light it starts as soon as i come to a complete stop. while sittin foot on the brake it starts let off it dies down accelerate it stops.. sound fimilar. after u install ur brake booster let me know if that fixes ur prob and i will do mine. thanks
ill let ya know..ill also do a write up on it...it might be the cure to all these noisey ps pump's some ppl have! 3 days left till the weekend
i got the same problem except when i first start the truck cold(sat overnight) i cant hear it, but as soon as i turn the wheel alittle or touch the brakes it whines. Im just hoping that it hasnt damaged my pump...wouldnt wanna have to replace that again!
well heres the deal i found a thread which someone describes exactly what mine dose and never posted if the brake booster is the fix but here are my symptoms " At idle I can feel and here a grinding/vibration in what appears to be the power steering pump. Turning the steering wheel will make it change tones or go away, and increasing engine RPM's will make it go away as far as I can tell. The PS fluid level is good and I have no leaks. Further, the steering and brakes work fine, but his grinding is very bad" Its not a whinne from the pump its a grinding vibration."
post back and let me know how the brake booster swap goes i will be out of town next monday through the 14th building a track in the boonies so i will check back this sunday befor i leave try and get some other inputs from people to see what they think too this has been going on for 6months for me and would like to get er fixed.
ive searched and searched, other sites also and found one...not sure if i can post the link ill send ya a pm of it and read it over....sounds like it sure fixed his noisy PS prob.

Exactly the problems I had when the transmission shop put power steering fluid in the ps pump. I had to totally flush the PS system with new fluid. Now it is running well. Before you spend big $$ you might consider changing/flushing the fluid. I removed the return line at the brake booster, routed it to a container and added new fluid with the engine running while pumping out. It took about 3+ qts to flush the pump/brake/lines and cooler. After this mine ran smooth.
Be sure to flush with fluid meeting the FORD spec for this appication from your manual.
