Ok, I thought the pin ole im my res was the problem...
I jb welded it, and then i stopped at the hardware store today---and coolant is spilling down infront of my pass front tire!!!!
I open up the hood and it looks like the coolant just got pushed out from the cap!
So I need help - encouragement.
I do not see any sign of oil or fuel in my coolant...
Now for that bad....
About a month ago i listened to my friendly autozone guy when i replaced my leaking radiator!!!
i put in some great Prestone ANY car Any color....no I did have green stuff in there when i got the truck a year ago....never realy thought about looking inot waht kind of coolant i should be using!!! So i bought the prestone and a Autozone Thermostat
So now i have a problem and im reading about all of this about using other coolant or addatives to prevent cavitation.
Is there any way to see I killed my engine, or if i just need a new thermostat and coolant flush?
Please send help or at least encouragement that all is not lost
Thanks guys
Cavitation would come from not using an additive in the green stuff, and the pin holes would be causing the antifreeze & oil to mix. If the coolant is clean, and the oil still looks like oil, then I think your block is ok.
That is waht i am hoping...
Now for the fix---
Im thinking the 203* from Dieselsite ?
And flush the whole system and get some of the red stuff in there? (ELC i mean)
I hope that i have not done too much damage!!!
Thank you for giving me some hope
I just run the gold coolant in mine. I figure changing my coolant every 100k isn't too bad. Besides when I roll over 300k, I feel like I should do something to it. Same feeling I had when I went over 100k, & 200k.
Nothing wrong with the 203 stat. Any idea what temp stat Autozoo sold you?
193* or 195*
But I had no idea that there was a part of the OEM stat that also work the diverter...
I am hoping that this is the problem with mine and that it is not operating the diverter correctly and is causing coolant to get pushed back into my reservoir...
This is my best case scenario...
Know of any other reasons that my truck is puking coolant?
Anything else i need to check?
At the rate i'm finding problems on my truck, i will never get to do the mods i need to get a nice TS or DP chip!GGGRRRR
And i cant wait to roll over a few 100k clicks myself!!!
As far as the coolant, i made that mistake putting in the ALL vehicle Prestone ELC. Changed it out the next day from the advice of FTE members here, put CAT ELC in.
Was the AZ thermostat the same length as the old one? There are short ones that fit, but don't divert the coolant properly. Why you're getting it to come out of the de-gas bottle, I'm not sure. I don't think the coolant is the problem, but I'd do a good flush (there's a procedure we can link you to if you need it), make sure the stat is correct, and put in good HD coolant (mine has Gold in it too -- AZ carries it, Xerex G-05).
EDIT: If the new stat isn't the long stem, the back part of the motor can overheat -- so, you're not exactly out of the woods yet...
