Coast Mystery?

Well was drivin my dads SD the other day and he told me how to use the coast button on the steering wheel. (I know I should have know what it was used for so take it easy on me boys) Anyways I tried it in my truck today and the truck acted weird. Acted as if it didnt function correctly. I would press it and nothin. Press harder and it would coast then for no reason stop workin. The truck would jerk then go back to cruise. Any ideas on my mysterious problem? Thanks

It may be the Brake Pedal Applied (BPA) switch on the end of the master cylinder is going bad. It's turns the CC off when the brake pedal is pressed.
Remove the connector and see if there is liquid, brake fluid, in the cavity. If so the sensor is bad. It's a normally closed sensor. You can check it with an Ohm meter. With the connector removed, There should be continuity between the pins until the brake is pressed then it opens up.
A recall has been issued on this switch due to fires. Not a real concern on diesels. The dealership may replace it for free, it can't hurt to ask...it worked for me on a 1996!

Mine does the same thing. And that's why I hardly ever use it. I do the brake tap thing too. Besides, I only want to slow down for a little bit, then hit resume to get back up to warp speed!

even if the sensor isnt leaking fluid its most likely bad..... its when they leak that gas motors catch fire.
