sorry for digging up an old post, BUT I finally I have accumalated enough parts to do the swap....And I did it all today. Quite frankly, the D60 swap was the easiest, most well invested upgrade I have done so far....Everything(D50 stuff) came out real easy.
First, I removed the shocks and put the top bolt back in place since I used them and some wire to hang the calipers out of the way(which was the next thing I removed).....then unbolt the ujiont straps and supported the driveshaft....then I unbolted the axle pivot bolts, draglink at the pitman arm and then the ubolts(they were the toughest thing to get out)...I used jacks to support the axle while I unbolted the ubolts and slowly lowered the axle. It took some wiggling but the alxe pivot fell right down..
I then dragged it all out of the way....I dropped the leaf springs down and inspected the bushings and decided they were good enough for now....the pivot brackets were the next thing out, which came put easily thanks to the impact....
I then install the track bar bracket on the cross member and used jacks to position the new axle under the truck....I jacked the axle up and secured it with the ubolts and brackets....I then installed the track bar(equipped with new bushings)...then everything was put back on the way it was removed....I took the liberty of replacing the shock and brake pads while I was under there.....
Once everything was installed, I took it for the maiden voyage and it was friggin AWESOME!!! it rides alot better than it did before, eventhough I used the F250 ttb diesel springs....and the steering feels alot tighter..it does need an alignment since it does pull a little to the right AND it turns tighter to the right than the left.....but that will be taken care of tomorrow....I didnt have a camera so I cant post pics, but I will get some of the finished product and post them in my gallery....i know, i know if I dont have pics than it didnt happen, but then again, it was so easy and straight forward that I really dont think they are needed..... anyways I just wanted to update yall!!!
I think it must be a bit wider.... I noticed the same thing after I did my swap. I've been looking into wheel spacers to bring the rear wheels out to match the front.
Looks kinda goofy when it's lifted with bigger tires and the front tires are farther out than the back...lol
yea, I mean it looks good with wider stance, but the front sticks out a little farther than the back....
Oh, by the way, for the price of new bushings, I can get two front leaves with good bushings, but its from a 8600 gvw 95 f250..so the spring rate will be less...I was thinking of using the top leaf(with the decent bushings) and the bottom leaf from my truck to achieve a compromise-new bushings with a slightly softer/lighter top spring but with a decent load rating...think it would work??? my truck is 8800gvw with a 7.3NA and the springs are rather stiff, so I was thinking a lighter top leaf and the heavier bottom leaf.....they should be interchangeable and f350 4x4 springs are impossible to find....
Nice job on the 60, Post em up when ya get that far... DO not use stock, just buy the replacement parts, to save a buck in the short term = fail You will be sorry. There will never be a better time...
Point taken on buying new....However Im just concerned about downtime since it is my daily driver...I work shift work and rarely gat 2 consecutive days off-so if I dont get it moving that day, I gotta find another way to work....the bushings in it now are useable but they should be changed out in the upcoming months...but first I gotta change out the injector orings and do something about the rear height....the swap lifted the front about 1.5-2" so now the front sits about even or higher than the rear....I would like to lift the rear about an inch since I often haul stuff with this truck and I dont want it looking like its draggin its **** when I have a load.....I tend to like to have my trucks rear to sit a little bit higher than the front-not like a huge rake or anything.....the local parts store has 3" aluminum blocks i can replace my 2" factory blocks with, but they are not wedge shaped so I dont know if I need a 4deg axle shim...the factory blocks look pretty square-ish so I may be alright...I dunno...plus I dont know how the aluminum will hold up since the factory block is steel....
Ok, I just added my avatar and updated my gallery with pics.....Im also going to try to get to my bumper build this weekend(which involves 12" c-channel and 1/4" plate)....I know the bed does not match, but the truck came without a bed since the PO sold the utility body(which is why I only paid $300 for the truck)....the bed came off my buddy's wrecked 95 150

Well my truck had no bed when I got it. (It also had a utility box on it.) You just gotta make due. I had a bed from my uncles scrap pile for a really long time. Rusted on one side. Grey primer with dark blue flaking paint. Smashed up tailgate. And then I got an F-150 for free (just had to haul it away.)
I pulled the bed and scrapped the truck. Then I put a new rear bumper on and painted it all white. And now it looks damn good. Its kind of funny to see the old pictures of it. With my BFG A/T's and my blue bed. :P Sadly enough, most of the rednecks around my town told me it looked better with a blue bed. -_-
Yea its been 3years and I am STILL selling parts from the 95 f150(the one I got the bed off of)....I cut the frame and scrapped it months ago but today I just sold the fuel tank that was on it AND the rear bumper.... so now I got beer money to help finish the bumper build!!!haha...actually the bumper is almost done, well the cutting and welding anyways...I just got to paint it with the last bit of rustoleum"hand-hammered" paint-that stuff has went pretty far since it painted my axle, bedsides and bumper....I just got to buy some steel diamond plate for the top part of the bumper(but that will be bolted on)..I will post pics in the next couple of days...
