Your Ford factory warranty is expired. The engine is warrantied for 5 years/100K miles. Since your truck is a 2002, the 5 years expired already. If you do have any warranty left on the truck, it will be through a warranty that you purchased through the dealer or a 3rd party.

Also, adding an aftermarket exhaust does not automattically void any warranty. The aftermarket part obviously won't be covered, but the rest will still be covered as long as the mod doesn't cause damage. Back when my truck still had the factory warranty, I had 4 warranty repairs and one recall done, all with modifications already installed.

Yes, you need a bigger exhaust, ideally. How is your 2002 still under warranty? Did you buy an extended one? The factory 5 year/100,000 mile warranty expired in '07 sometime...

I ran the Superchip for years with just my muffler taken out and installed a straight pipe. Wasn't till I was ready for the DP-TUNER did I go with a 4" turbo back exhaust.

I wouldn't think you will have a problem with the warranty.

A 4 inch exhaust will be a big help, even if you're running a stock engine.

I'm sure superchips make a good product, but for these trucks, you really should consider going with Tony Wildman or DP Tuner. I've read too many stories about folks that have ditched their tuners or chips for either a DP or TW. I have never read one where someone has ditched their DP or TW and went with a superchips or other programmer or chip.

John, I had to ditch my DP for my Superchip I had on the shelf.

The only reason I did that was because I am getting my DP reburned for my new injectors. I put my Superchip back in. I can't wait for my DP to get back.

I figured one of you guys would respond to my comment.

Hey Rick, you could always leave the DP on the shelf for a backup when the superchips acts up.

Welcome stroker870 to FTE, there,s still time to reconsider getting Tony Wildman or a DP Tuner for your truck, you won't be dissapointed. I switched from the SC programmer and theres no comparision. I would do a 4inch exhaust first and some other supporting mods before the chip, good luck.

Well I am glad someone said it! Welcome to FTE stroker870, first off they are right don't waste your time with the superchips who ever tells you that they severally miss informed or on superchips payroll. The best thing you can get for these trucks is Tony Wildman tunes ( www.totaldieselperformance.com ) or get a DP-Tuner ( DP-Tuner ) for the same price you can get the Superchips you can get a custom tuned shift on the fly chip.

For the exhaust Mko makes a great system along with MBPR.

If you have or are getting a performance program, then a 4" exhaust should not be of any concern with regard to warranty.
I just recently installed the MBRP 4" turbo-back system and like it for the most part. It has a throatier sound than the stock, but am gradually getting accustomed to the extra sound at various speeds.
Good luck,

Stroker870, I just tonight put my truck back to stock with the Superchip tuner. I could not take what was going on with my truck. I do have a few more mods then you do. If I didn't use the Superchip for reading codes, I would send it to you at no charge. Look in the sigs of these guys and see what they are running.

Let me tell you this. If you go with the DP or TW, you will need to have a good intake, a good exhaust, a good set of gauges, and a Valve Body of some kind. Then get the chip. I hope you do enough reading on here to know what our trucks need for power. Don't get in a hurry to get power, some supporting mods are a great thing to do. And they are also fun to do.

I have a super chips programmer and like Miller_feed said I am looking at getting a dp tuner and just use my sc programmer to read codes. If I were you I would get your exhaust, intake and gauges done first. I wish I would have known about this site before I bought my superchips programmer it would have saved me some money. These are great guys and know everything about these trucks they have helped me with all kinds of issues that the stealership would have taken 3x more money to fix and I am learning how to work on this diesel myself. And welcome to FTE

we got a little snow here. it didnt stick at all but it came down good here. the reason i brought up the warranty thing is because i bought my truck used and didnt have a clue what the warranty was and i went to a muffler shop to have my exhaust cut off and the guy that owned the place said it would void my warranty and i figured he knew what he was talking about. GUESS NOT thats what i get for not asking yall first
