electrical problem
My 2001 F350 has a an electrical issue that leads me to think it's the ignition but before I dig into that I figured I'd ask the experts.(Actually maybe it happened to one of you) After the truck is started sometimes the radio will pause before it turns on. This has been going on for a while, today I hit a bump and the radio went off and earlier the power windows and the radio didn't work after starting the truck. Now I would think the power window not working is that today is the first time I noticed it. Anyway you look at it I'm loosing power to some of my electrical devices.

Could be the ignition switch. Generally, the radio would be on with the key in run but not start position. Prob also true of the windows, but I'm not sure. Does your HVAC blower work at these times? That is something that is always killed during cranking, so that coul dbe a more accurate pointer to the ignition switch. It could also be the accessory delay relay that allows you to use the radio and windows once the car is shut off but before you open a door. If you have a sunroof, this relay would also affect that. It's on the main fuse panel under the dash.

That sounds a lot like a GEM failure. Either your windshield leaking or a bad contact. I believe your year has the GEM mounted on the back of the fuse box, and a TSB for the windshield leak which has claimed several GEMs.

I just checked the TSB's and didn't find anything for a windshield leak but found one for an ignition switch issue which might interfere with accessories. I will try to find the gem and check for water or back contact.

Another tid bit. Was out earlier today radio never came on, windows and wiper had time delay gig going on. So I asked myself about putting it on acc position and see if it worked. Sitting in the drive, with the door open nothing worked on acc except that damn door chime. Go to run position and all of a sudden the radio comes on, lots of clicks coming from under the dash. Start the truck everything works, I did this a few times, at this moment everything works except when you put it on acc, nothing. It's been snowing, hence I was getting wet so I shut the door while it was on acc position and the radio comes on. You open the door the radio stays on, turn the key off and put it on acc with door open nothing, shut the damn door the radio comes on. Now if you have the door open and turn it to run everything works???????

I just pulled the fuse box out, no water, dry as a bone. I always thought the gem was a sealed steel box, mine is plastic and the board inside comes right out. I have part number's, the one on the board is different than the one on the box. A lot faster putting it in than taking it out. I would imagine the second time around should go really quick. No radio today, windows and wipers were slow on working but they started after 30 seconds or so.
