everything is new in the starting system... starter batt. relay all of it.. all grounds have been checked and are good to.. alt & starter is new as of 7 oclock last night but its only puttin out 11.43v.... wdf did i do wrong i get slow crank for 1/2 a turn or nothing at all.. or sometimes it will slow crank then speed up and fire.... batt. keeps comming up as good/recharge and recheck... im thinkin thats becouse of the 11v the alt is putting out what else do i need to check or replace.... all items have been replaced becouse of parts guy tellin me its this or this or try this other then the cables they where trashed so i just did them lucky me everythign is under warrnty.. AUTOZONE LIFE TIME WARRNTY
With only 11 Volts I'd try a different battery, could be that one has a dead cell. If it's good I'd go back to looking at connections and grounds. Failing that pull the starter and have it tested, new doesn't always mean good. I went to Kragens years back for an alternator. Counter guy pulled it out and started to ring me up and I idly tried to spin the alternator. Couldn't, it was dead frozen.
Don't worry about your alternator at this point though, its not part of the starting system and doesn't do anything until the engine is started.
yea but this is the 3rd starter... i had auto zone replace it 2 times already... and i have tryed new batt. did nothing... but thxs for the info.. if ya think of anythign else let me know i really need my truck goin again and im up for tryin anything
Well, do this with caution*, put a jumper cable on the positive side of your battery and then touch the other end to the positive stud on the starter. If it turns over like it should then that will eliminate the starter, the battery, and the grounds as the culprit and will leave only the wiring and the relay.
*Watch for sparks, moving parts, and truck in neutral if it's manual.
problem i just found out about when tryin to start the truck by key after the truck would not crank/very slow crank i shut it off the starter kept crankin tho as if i was doin ti with the key..... i jumped out and got the batt. cable off as quick as i could... what would make this happen...
I would guess either the ignition switch is sticking internally, the starter relay is sticking, or there's something not wired correctly and it's back-feeding current to the relay or ignition.
o hell... i hate wiring problems... "Now where did i park that tank" this truck has done great for a few months no need to work on it nothing and now this....
thats ok solenoid is not bad... tested it on brothers pick up.. but update on info had truck running and pulled the batt. cable died faster then u can blink.... so low volts?? becouse truck is been running on strait batt.??? keepin it from starting i have no idea where to check.. any and all help is very much greatfull
OK,
So I came here from the other thread you just hijacked.
If you're only getting 11V from the alternator what would make you think it was the battery or starter that was at fault?
If I were you I would look to changing the alternator pigtail.
These are known to go bad, and then kill an alternator in short order.
There have been many issues with "new" solenoids being bad from -that place- where you got yours as well.
BTW, pulling the cable is not too good an idea, but at least you know you're not charging.
alt is new tested good at napa and autozone... off the truck. on the truck i get nothing knew the batt was not in good shape becouse it would not hold a charge for more then 5 mins and drop from 12vs to 11v and keep goin down off the truck i knew pullin the cable was not to good of a idea but i have gone thu everything else.. checked "F" on volt reg. it was fine. + its been in my bros truck got 14.67v out of his alt with my volt reg. on his truck for the starter i have had to many of there starters go bad that i just get them to replace it anymore if i even think it might be at fault.
