Cool No power with new ProComp ignition!!!!!

I just put a new ignition system on my truck. The truck wasn't making spark so I bought a ProComp billet distributor, ProComp high intensity coil, and ProComp High intensity spark box. I removed my old distributor and the gear was chewed up and worn terribly. I installed all my new ignition components and still nothing. There is power going into the spark box, but nothing coming out and going to the coil. The damn thing didn't come with instructions but I believe that everything is wired correctly. Has anybody ever has any problems with ProComp? I'm thinking this Spark box is a piece of crap and he owes me another one but do you guys have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Try Pro Comp's website. They have instructions.

Thanks. I just found that about a half hour ago. I don't think it really helps me much thought. I have everything like they say. Do you guys think that the Spark Box could be bad (even thought its brand spankin' new)?

Thanks

I've seen it before.
Back in the 60's, I put new points and condensor in my 383 Road Runner. No spark at all. Went back to NAPA and was told the condensor was bad from the factory. Pro Comp is a good company. They will make it right.

One last thing to try before you throw up your hands.
Make sure you have a good ground from the block to the battery, and a ground from the box to the battery. If the box has rubber mounting pads and you can't get a ground through the body to the battery, it could be a problem.

Yea I'm pretty sure the thing was grounded, but I'm going to check today to make sure its good enough. Thats all I was thinking about last night that it could be. I hope to god it is.

Thankyou Mud Rat,

Try to get a spark to jump from the plug end to ground. That will tell you if it's firing. If it's a CD system there is usually a wire you can just touch to ground and see the spark.

The worn dizzy gear gives me an uncomfortable feeling.

Well, I think the new dizzy has a bad magnetic pickup. I grounded the wire to see if it sparked and it will spark if you wiggle the heck out of the two wires into the distributor. There is no power to the coil or spark but if you wiggle the 2 wires to the dizzy, there will be power and spark that comes and goes each way you wiggle the wires. I'm kinda lost on ideas besides the brand new magnetic pickup being bad.

The dizzy bearing was shot. The cam gear is still perfect with no wear marks or anything at all.

Thanks

I have seen problems with intermittant connection problems with magnetic pickups. I'd suggest getting another pickup and trying it. You can also do another test on it with an ohm meter connected to the two wires (off the module). Turn the dizzy or the mechanical or vacuum advance and you should see a pulse of resistance each time the star wheel passes the pickup,

I called procomp and explained my problem. They were really nice about the whole deal and helped me to trouble shoot the problem ( I hope). The guy said he just about guaranties a bad magnetic pickup. They are sending me a new magnetic pickup free of charge and I should have it by friday, and I will let you guys know.

Thanks

Well Pro Comp sent me the new magnetic pickup. I put it on, turned the key and she fired imediatly! It idles and revs fantasticly. I'm not going to drive it on the bad crappy salt covered roads, so I didn't take it anywhere. But the sputter it used to have is now gone. The problem is fixed!! Also, when we installed the new distributor, it was just about dead nuts on. It was only about 10 degrees out of time.

Thanks,
