New Muffler

Im looking to get a new muffler for my truck. Its a 1996 Ford F-250 with the 5.8l V8 and an Automatic Transmission. What size muffler do I need to get for it to be a direct replacement for the stocker, by louder.

What size would I need? As far as piping goes, as well as the inlet and outlet. Should I go with the 10 Series, 40 Series, or 44 Series?

a single 3" would be fine. 40 is the original flowmaster... 44 is the new one.. its your choice i gues.. the 10 is a race muffler louder then hell..

The stock muffler is probably 2 1/4 in and 2 1/4 out. It's 2 1/2 at the back of the cat. So if you want to do it right, get a 2 1/2 inch piece of pipe the correct length, and use a 2 1/2 in 2 1/2 out muffler. Any muffler shop will bend you a piece of pipe to come out in front of the tire.

Let us know what you get, Im at the same place you are. I want a new muffler on my 93 f250, but want to keep the stock type dual outlets. I dont like the 3" single look, some of the ones ive seen done on f250/350 look like they should be on a honda.

go with a single in dual out muffler. like from Cherry bomb, flowmaster, or magnaflows. All are good and it just depends on your taste as far as sound and tone.

I just think the stock duals look more like a truck should, I saw a 3" single on a early 90s f350 yesterday, it looked like something off a lowered subaru with a NOS stickers and neon lights under it..............but thats just a old guys opinion.

Yeah I definitely wanna keep the stock dual passenger side outlet, I think its a badass looking setup. And i'm looking for something loud, really loud. So maybe the 10 series would be for me? Should I just take the truck to a muffler shop and order a 10 series through them?

Well if you want really loud, do a header dump.... Or a set of glass packs on the headers and turn them out right behind the cab.

Run straights all the way out under the truck

Loud is realative, so you can take several peoples advice but you need to know what sound you are really looking for. If you want just loud cut your system as close to the engine as allowed in your area, and run three in straight pipes all the way out. If you want a tuned sound Then go with a high end muffler, with whatever set up that manufacturer recommends for best performance, remember it may not be your idea of loud though.

Well then I guess I should say I want it to be loud. But I also want it to sound good.

I wouldnt mind a little more tone than stock, but not too loud. I think cherrybomb has a direct replacement that retains the stock dual outlets. anythings got to be better than that 3" single w/ ricer tailpipe I saw.

If you want a decent sound just cut the muffler out entirely. Run a y to branch into to pipes and tie into the existing dual outs.
