Dead spot

06 screw fx4 all stock other than 2" AS... Sometimes when i slow down to turn or for traffic, when i go to accelerate the truck will downshift like it should and the motor will fall on its face for a second or so.. its like an old carb. motor with a dead spot. really irritating .. I thought it was b/c i was running E85 but now i've run a few tanks of gas through it and it still does it sometimes.. Is this a dealer issue , if so i need to get it done my warr. runs out in feb. Or is this part of the drive by wire lag... would a programmer fix it? TIA Billy

The hesitation you are describing is normal in the newer F150s. The only fix for this is to get a tuner for it.

yes a tuner definatley helps, but if you dont want to go that route, i heard that there is a trick to solve this.

1) turn key ON (not to start)
2) push throttle pedal to the floor and hold
3) turn key off

That should help.

I tried this and it worked, but i have since installed an Edge Evo and hesitation is a thing of the past.

Hope it helps

What? First I've read of this... Anyone else? What exactly does that achieve/do? How long do you hold it?

I have read about this before and tried it and it did help. As with Shmuck I too have done the tuner route which took care of the problem.

There is a TSB to address this concern. I had the same problem and had the dealership do the reflash per the TSB and it helped a great deal. The problem did not completely disappear but it is nearly unnoticeable unless you know what you are looking for.

kd4crs is right, dead spot is dimished, but still lingering there in the background. But it will be better then what you're experiencing now. A reflash might help as well. Theoretically the dealer should do this conjunction with your service visits.

To clarify.....

1) turn key ON (not to start)
2) push throttle pedal to the floor and hold (hold for a few seconds)
3) turn key off
4) process complete

IF that doesnt work, try this

1) push pedal to the floor, hold
2) turn key to ON (not to start)
3) wait 5 seconds
4) turn key off

process complete, start, go driving.

For some reason, since re-reading my post i think the correct procedure is the second one listed, but i cant remeber where i discovered this little trick to confirm.

Anyhow, one of the the methods will work. I hope you find it helpful.

Cheers

Where is the best place (price) to buy an edge tuner?
Thanks,

Bronco Billy66 , Go To The Dealer And Have The Transmission Reflashed/software Upgraded. I Had It Done 2 Months Ago And Now Is Shifting Fine. Had The Same Problem You Are Talking About.
There Is A Tsb For This. It Will Be Free Of Charge For Them To Do This. Under The 3/36 Bumper To Bumper Warranty.
