Hi all, I have a quick question:

I recently purchased my truck and its been running great. However, when I turn it off, it kinda sputters for a few seconds before completely dying.

If any of you know how I can remedy this, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Billy.

What kind of gas are you running in it? Low grade gas will cause mine to "diesel" (run on) sometimes.

What's the timing set at and your idle speed?

Thanks foer the response FT,

I'm currently putting regular in, but have considered upgrading to Premium because of this very issue.

Not exactly sure of timing and exact idle speed but will be sure to check that next.

Idle can be high or the timing a little too advanced is the usual culprit.

A couple work arounds until you get it fixed,

1- If auto tranny shut it off in drive.

2- If manual dump the clutch while holding the brake pedal.

Either will make enough resistance to kill the engine quickly.

All the posts above make a lot of sense ,and should help. This may come from
driving lots hot rods, try patting the gas petal lightly once to clear it out, wait
for it to idle back down and shut it off! Also like already said better grade of
fuel!

May try de-carbon the combustion chamber with a drink of water. It's done by bring the rpm up while you pour water down the carb. Normally 12-16 oz is enough.

I tapped the accelerator to clear it out last night, and it turned off quietly. I'm gonna upgrade the fuel as well.

Thanks to all who responded!

Do you always go to the same gas station? Have problems at some and not others?

I know my 67 is picky on who's fuel I use. Even some of the top names cause mine to diesel a bit at times. I fixed my idle speed a while back and that helped a whole lot. I try to stick to one gas station which never gives me problems.

Much like people who get old our trucks can get very picky and grumpy when they have something they don't like. It would kill me to upgrade in fuel because of the cost. 10 miles per gallon is bad enough with regular unleaded prices.

I haven't gone to the same gas station consistently. Then again, I haven't had her all that long to pay close enough attention to that. I'll try and remain consistent though to see what happens.

Thanks Roaming!

An Opinion: I think brands of gas made a difference a few years ago, but I believe today that all gas is most alike with the additives that are required to be put in. I run the cheapest gas that i can find and really don't see any differences.

My 2 cents will be on timing or idle first before brand of gas, causing dieseling. That was the issue that caused my van to diesel a few years back.

I bought gas at a Shell station about a month ago and had a slight dieseling problem. I also use the cheapest gas station in town and never have a problem. Perhaps my motor is extra picky but mine just doesn't like certain tanks of gas.

Keep in mind the gas stations should be changing from (winter) blend= crap,
back to (summer) blend= little better gas! At least that is what they claim!
