how do u start a diesel in the cold with wiothout glow plugs i need i bought my truck in june it had nuked plugs but i dint notice cause i live in cali hot in summer cold in winter know it wont start in the clod in the moring
plug it in or i know alot of people are going to cringe at the thought of this.use aboiut 1/4-1/2 a second of ether but make for safety make sure yopur gp's are inoperable.it wont hurt the motor just use it sparingly.i have to do it to mine once in a while
Block heater plugged in for 1-2 hours will help. Have you determined the GPs are nuked or just guessing since they do not work. How long does the WTS light stay on..... have you tested the GPs with the 12V power and test light.
i used a my girl freind blowdiree to blow hot air in the intake later that day it start if i hold my glow plugs for 5 secs they work any longer nothing my glow plug are wired to a toggle swicth form the frist owner
sounds like the gp's are toast or atleast a couple of them.have you tested them?with an ohm meter they will test between .5 and 1.0 ohms.or you can use the test light method in a pinch
On 85 engines the glow plug system was the old style system.
Very common for the controller to fail with the glow plugs turned on when not needed which burns them out.
Replace them with Motorcraft/Beru ZD1A glow plugs. Then remove the purple wire from the glow plug controller.
That will disable the stock glow plug system, so you have to use the push button switch to heat them.
In the picture, the purple wire is cut and a green one is spliced to it.
try marking wires and just redoing it or maybe try to get a new one or a good one from a junk yard if you can find one.it would be a pain but may or may not help.rewiring it would be a good start some of the wires may be oxidated and not allowing a good connection
