does the PCM even read the ECT sensor, and if so does it take its readings into account for fueling tables and such?
I know the PCM has to see 180* of EOT for the PCM to "unlock" the upper level of injector timing, but does the ECT sensor have any bearing on this.
The reason I ask is, a month ago when I was installing the 650 dash and adding my other coolant temp guage, I broke my ECT sensor. My Buddy Chris had his old one so I threw it in there, but my dash guage(factory) did not start reading. Well, I got a new ECT sensor today, and put it in, and my factory guage still does not work. So, since I have a back up guage that works, do I need to worry about the factory ECT reading? I do not have a SES light on, but have not checked to see if it is a stored soft code.
The engine coolant sensor is used as the primary input to the Electronic Control system to enable adaptive cooling. This provides a means of providing adequate cooling in severe engine temperature conditions. When ECT is greater than 107°C (225°F), the fueling rate of the engine is modified to provide cooling protection and prevent engine damage due to overheating. An ECT sensor is used only on manual transmission equipped vehicles.

So since I have an auto tranny, the ECT sensor is there just for the idiot guage?
Thoughts, it worked fine before I broke the first sensor.
Comments, Ill shoot him a line next week, dont want to disturb him during the holiday weekend.
I'll look through the manual more today. That's all I could find last night. Have you tried the diagnostics in the PC/ED manual to see if you can determine if it's a sensor or wiring issue?
like Curtis, I have a 99.5 that has a two wire coolant sensor, but, I do not experiece the low power issues when warm. Im going to leave my new ECT sensor in place, and just keep truckin for the time being, I will worry with the guage later.
Brandon...u wouldnt know the part number on that ECT sensor would ya?....mines reading way high and I think its screwing with my mileage.
Its a borg warner part, let me get home this evening and I will get the part number off the box, the box is still laying on my work bench. I got it at Oryelees, it was 20ish bucks
