Under a dollar.

Maybe a little more if you want to mount it real fancy.

You can get the LED from radio shack for cheap a couple of dollars. Make sure you get a 12V LED. I just did mine when I put my guages in.

I figured the GPR was PCM grounded, but I wasn't sure so I wasn't going to say.

The PCM always needs to have a source of voltage to keep its volatile RAM (Random Access Memory) alive and well. So in a way, the PCM is at least partially on as long as the battery is connected. If the PCM is the source of ground in a circuit such as our GPR, there will be voltage available through that connection and will energize that part of the PCM as well. As long as the semi-conductor switching devices are powered, they will make the yes/no, 1/0 decisions that they are designed to depending upon the inputs they receive.

The biggest benefit of the switch setup is I can have my glow plugs run their 2 min cycle when it is cold out (below zero) as I use my keys to operate lock on my cap/topper, toolboxes, buildings, etc.

deere, I grew up not all that far from you in Grafton, been through Hartford many a time.

Whoops, I meant to say Horicon. Easy enough to mix-up since Hartford is west on Hwy 60, and Horicon is about the same distance west on 33.

Hope the tread has been helpful to you.

or if your dad won't let you do the manual control switch.... do what I do... in cold weather go through a couple glow plug cycles before you try to start it..... simple, turn the key on, wait for it to time out, turn key off, turn key on again..... wait for the led to drop, then start.

I wonder if we could get the glow plug switch wired in a way that you would have 3 settings: on, off,and auto.(auto lets the GPR control the plugs) Do you guys think we could get it to work?

Use a three position rotary switch.

Remove the wire from the GPR's low side and stow temporarily.

Common of the switch goes to the low side of the GPR where the wire above used to be.

First position goes nowhere.

Second goes to ground (preferably also through a momentary-contact, normally-open push button switch, one that you have to physically hold in to activate).

Third goes to wire previously removed from the GPR.

That second position is going to be a battery-killer unless you also use that push-button.

I under stand what you are saying Pop. I was planning on usuing a 3 position toggle switch but thinking about it the rotary switch would be better because it can't be switched baccidently bumping it.

You don't have to cycle the glow plugs by turning the key on and off a few time. Just turn on key wait for the light on dash to go out, then wait a minite more. The glow plugs stay on for 2 minites or so after you turn the key on. If you have the LED mod then you should know how long they stay on.
