I have a 84 f350, the truck came with the glow plugs controlled by a manual switch. the glow plug light would always come on, but the glow plugs where junk. I had a friend take the old plugs out "which happned to be auto lights" I replaced them with motor craft. We tested the plugs and found they had power to them. We put the valve cover back on, and now they won't work. the glow plug light will not even come on now. Is it the relay, and why would it stop working just because we put in new plugs. Do you think there is a problem some where?? thanks
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...old-style.html Have a read through this link about the glowplug system. Ignore the controller as yours is wired direct.
I agree with John that your switch wires may be disturbed, worth double checking using the pic in the above link.
It also tell you how to test the relay.
Manual glow plug system is very simple.
On the passenger side inner fender there's a relay with a purple wire. If you find a 12v fused power source from the fuse box under the dash, run it to a mometary push button switch, then run it out to the glow plug relay.
Unplug the purple wire and put your wire on it.
That's how simple it is. Are you sure all the wires you touched are back as you found them?
Also, check your fuses...I don't think there is a glow plug fuse, but check in case.
Sounds like a loss of connection, because all of a sudden now they won't work.
