you could probably fab some type of flange to adapt it.but that does sound like it would work.alot of welding though i would do some measurements and have an exhaust shop do some bending.i want to do the same stainless pipe with mine and powder coat them black.
i have 5 inch stacks on mine and i doesn't sound all that bad. I did have four inch on it before but it sounded to much like a straight piped gas job. So i went to 5 inch and it sounds nice and throaty!
will the rain factor apply to a stack? im putting a stack on my 86 6.9 and im not changin the exhaust size for money reasons im jus cutting it off and fitting the stack to it. will this give me more power over stock? i no it wont b a significant gain but will it gain any? and will the rain b a prolem? im n ot putting a huge stack on its like 5 inch and my cuz is gonna taper it will the rain actually ba problem?
i was gonna make a flapper for it i was hoping i would have enough pressure to open it
ha, um....no.
An 8" stack, or especially two of them, would look really stupid. I've seen a lot of guys with 7" stacks on newer diesels and they just look dumb because they're so big.
Trust me, I have 5" stacks WITH a muffler and they are plenty loud enough to hear me a good ways away. I wouldn't even want to hear how loud this thing would be with straight pipe up to the stacks. Bigger wouldn't necessarily be louder.
I really dont have any problem with to much rain or anything. But if it rains and i fire it up i get little black dots all over the box. I have ticked off a few people when i fire it up and the soot is all over there car! But oh well! Mine is completely straight piped and it sounds really good!!! If u put a good load on it and rev it up to about 2500rpm it sounds really sweet!!!
Yah, mine shoots black nasty too, not much usually, but it depends on how heavy it rained (or snowed). In any case, I've learned to make sure both doors and all windows of the cab are closed before I fire it up, cleaning soot from your jacket sucks.
Do like the truck washes put a towel or something over the pipes it just takes a few seconds to dry the soot.
Here's a tip for you guys the old trucks with 318 detroits and 555 cummins had 4 inch y pipe that is about perfect for building stacks nearly all of these trucks are now in wrecking yards.
Eh, rain cleans it off just fine too - if truck will stay parked for more than one night I have an empty bottle of green coke that I cut so I can slip it over the pipe, seems to work better than the clapper as that always let some water in even tho it was closed.
