I have been running mine for years.
Back before the turbo with straight pipes it was loud.....I meant to say LOUD.
With the turbo and straight pipes, it sounds real good.
I bought 3" x 4 foot turnouts, got a deal for 100 dollars for both.
I built the rest of it myself with one of my neighbors tools at his muffler shop.
Probably around 275 in the whole deal from the downpipe back which is all 3".
if your going to build it yourself try and find a salvage yard that has semi's and buy the tips they sell them here for $35 a piece that will save you a crap load.as soom as i get the rest of my truck squared away im doing mine exactly how dave did im trying to find 8 inch tips though so i can irritate the neighbors when they irritate me.haha
i do like the way yours looks.i personally think if you have big pipes on a flatbed it would look funny.and you would see all the pipe routing unless you made a toolbox type cover.
8" is way too much of an exhaust pipe for our engines, they just don't move enough air for that. There was actually someone who put an 8" stack from an asphalt paver on his F250, it looked real real bad.
its going to be 3" to the bed then go to 8" just for noise.i already have my truck straight piped coming out the bottom behind the cab so it shouldnt be different other than the noise.
Yeps, kinda what I was thinkin, better weld in some grate in that stack. Also, wonder how long it'll take it to collect enough water to fill up to the manifolds?
When I bought mine it had 6 inch stacks, but only one was hooked up. (Idiot p/o) But it sounded pretty good with the one, but It looked stupid with only one smoking, so now i have both hooked up and it doesn't sound nearly as good.
I am also going to put stacks on my trucks, except I am going to use 4" stainless.
I bought a 15' piece of 4" polished stailess about 4 years ago and I have been waiting to swap a diesel in my old truck to put stacks on it. I am hoping it looks good with the stainless, I wanted something that would last and I don't have good luck with chrome on my old truck, the stinking center caps want to rust over night in the winter it seems. My plans are to run the exhaust out of all stainless from the downpipe to the stacks, I just hope it works out that way. I plan to just mitre cut them to where there are barely above the cab, I was going to do it before but I just couldn't bring myslef to put stacks on a gas truck, and the wife would surely kill me if I put stacks on my newer diesel truck.
