Rust free well not really

I got this hood that was suppose to only have a little surface rust so i bought it from salvage yard and had it shipped to me. Well 400.00 later i get the hood today the outside of the hood is in great shape with on very little surface rust
but the under the hood looks bad. There is alot of rust between the actual hood and the bracing inside i was wondering if i could cut the bracing to get to all that rust the repair it then weld the bracing back in. Here are the pics.

Taking it apart and rewelding you take the risk of warpage. Unless you are building a show vehicle , I would blast it carefully and spray with rust converter, then usual paint job.

If It's a show truck I would have it acid dipped then e-coated, prolly would be to expensive for a daily driver. Just my2cents.

If I where you...I'd return that hood. It's not only rusty all over, some is VERY heavy and very nearly through. You'll never get at all of it under the bracing and acid dipping will leave a mess. Bide your time and get a nicer one.

I talked to the guy i got it from and he is suppose to refund my money and he told me to just keep the hood. We will what happens i found a hood and a door that i need in AZ rust free i saw pics but its expensive but getting good parts in my area are rare.

It's just a question of how long you can prevent it from reappearing. The only good metal is rust free. Prime and paint over it and it will come back in 2 months. Most body work I have had done at body shop's started coming back in a year. My own amatuer work has been lasting 4-5 years, and a whole lot cheaper. If you are a good welder, go on and cut out the bad stuff. And yes, for the money spent, you should have received a better hood. Most repoped hoods are not a whole lot more expensive considering your time and effort.

just an idea i hadnt seen mentioned.... Gently dismantle the two pieces, spotwelds etc. then once apart, repair the drilled out spotwelds and metal finish. Then go ahead and do the usual clean , acid etch, etc, rust bullet or similiar product of choice. do not blast anything, the pieces will be very flimsy, and wont take that abuse. keep the lips were attached clean, and use the modern day adhesives to mate the 2 pieces back together. It is work, alot of it, but if you have no options it can be done! Dan

Do they make fiberglass reproductions? Could you use the hood you have to make a mold and have something to sell to others?

Will you give me 10% since it's my fantastic idea?

One company makes a fiberglass hood but its a race hood and it doesnt have a place for the hinges or hood latch so it would have to be pinned down and for the price i aint gonna do that.

I would have thought that finding old truck parts in your neck of the woods would be easier then say here in Ohio but a quick scan Craigslist.com showed me different. Here is a site to look at, salvage yards.
