Hi everyone, We have 2008 F350 King Ranch crewcab and the mileage has been terrible we have owned 2004 , 2006 , and now a 2008 all basicily the same truck ( king ranch crewcabs) and the mileage has gone downhill. No B/S here the mileage on the 2004 was 22 mpg (driving at 60 m/hr) 2006 was 18 mpg ( driving at 60 m/hr) and now the 2008 is 14 mpg empty and and 9 mpg loaded we haul large trailers horse and flat decks both over 30 ft long. The 2008 king ranch is a beautiful truck but why does the mileage sucks. has anyone had improvements with the mileage if so how. we have 26,000 miles on the 2008.
No kidding about the heavier part. I have a 2008 F350 with the exact same equipment, same size tires and same toolbox as my 2001 F350 and the new one is exactly 800 pounds heavier.
epa mandated emissions..namely the DPF. It is not necessarily Fords fault.
Also from 2004 to present the trucks are bigger/stronger/ and because of that heavier.
None of that helps in the mileage arena.
Can you run this truck (2008 f350) without the DFR. and as for fords fault I don't think it is necessary to keep increasing HP and Torque at the cost of mpg. It was just fine before and where i live (alberta canada) the trucks can out pull anything but the problem is stopping the DOT are giving us problems with what we pull because of breaking so we may have to up grade to f450 and I don't see a pluss to that. trucks are 10k more and most likely worse on fuel mileage then the f350.
I too have an 08 F350, and at first the mileage sucked. I bit the bullet and bought the SCT Tuner, with the DPF delete and the new pipe. It was pricey, around $1500.00. I pull an 11K horser trailer, and with the tuner, I gained a couple of more miles to gallon, and on the highway (if I drive it, not the wife) I gained 5 more miles per gallon. I am selling the truck, so the package is for sell if anyone has an interest.
The 2008 is not the same truck as the earlier years. It is not reasonable to expect the same MPG. Our F-350,CC,LB,4X4, Dually weighs in at 9212lbs, full fuel 2 folks aboard set up for towing a 13K plus 5th wheel. We average 10MPG towing, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.We average 15/17 MPG solo. We consider that reasonable all things considered.

I would be some what happier if I got 17 mpg but we are no where near that and how fast are you driving to achieve those numbers ??
Thanks SDF
and by the way I have been driving f250 , f350 since 1977 its all i drive never the compitition
I have a 2008 job #3 f-250,3.73, 4x4 crew cab and it seems when unloaded if you can stay below 2000 rpms you get excellent mileage for a vehicle this large.
I average 15 to 15.6 on two lane country roads. truck mileage is 3817 approx.

SDF, the mpg's on the dash readout are american mpg's, convert your L/100kms for canadian mpg, I was much happier when I did this, I've had as high as 20mpg empty......

Thanks for the advice... but I am using a calculator not the display the mileage calculated. thanks for you input
How fast we drive is the key to MPG.. We tow at 60/62 MPH and when solo stay at that speed or near the speed limit. The faster you go and the deeper you put the foot in it the lower the mpg. My calculated and PC indicated MPG are within .2 of one another. At 55mph we get even better MPG at 70/75 far worse. I drive bythe EGT temps, Boost and RPM..not the speedometer.
I have almost 9000 miles on mine and i have seen the mpg get better as the miles have gone up..... i average about 15-15.5 around town driving... i just took a 700 mile trip and averaged 14.8 doing 80 mph. I have a heavy foot so i am pretty happy with this... when i pull the horse trailor loaded i am getting about 11 .. cant complain to much considering how big the truck is and how much nicer it is then the other 2 brands! I wouldnt trade the looks and power for a few more mpg..
I will be taking a 4800 mile round trip to Arizona in about a week. It will be interesting what the MPG's will average out to be. I can get around 16-18 hwy around home.
