The ford bed bob project!

So one day while looking at my pickup I decided I needed to bob my bed. Always liked how the toyota's looked bobbed so I looked at mine and just decided to. After doing some measuring I decided a bobbed short bed behind an extended cab was going to look WAY out of place. So I went to a yard, got a long bed and started cutting. I even shortened it to the same length of the short bed so my origional bed caps will fit. Still a work in progress but here is where it's at as of now. More pictures in my stage 2 album.

Well my truck is origionally a short bed so the bobbed long bed is the same as my old bed so won't have to do any frame mods. The axle is going to be set back 16 inches with the 4 link and coil suspension next month

I am liking the work you are doing on your truck. If you spend the time to make the bodywork on the bed really smooth, you will have people scratching their heads for a while

That looks nice, I have always kind of wanted a bobbed bed on my '69. but I just can't bring myself to shorten the "too-short-for-me" short box. I wish I would have not made it a short box now, I wish I would have bobbed the long box instead, it would have been cooler.

It is a lot easier to do when there are no electrics in your bed..
we took 2.7 feet off the back of our Ford powered m 715.
That with 40" tsl's right at the back of the truck is a way cool look...

Definately taking my time on the body work. I'm doing alot of double takes now. I might cause whip lash for some people doing a hard double take. And dont' worry...It's getting painted back to the origional red that was on the pickup.

The only problem I just figured out is I have to cut my fender flare to have any kind of decent looking bumper put on this thing. That should be an edventure

Thumbs up bumper

I think I would build one to match the front one that also would have the necessary clearance for the flares.

The body work looks fantastic. That is one cool truck. "Build it how you want it" is definitely the best policy with trucks......

That is the plan. I have to cut about 6 inches off the fender flare on the back side, so that should be interesting but it's the plan. Plus I'm going to recess some lights to be able to ACTUALLY see something when I put it in reverse
