Just installed new recon led turn signals because one of the oem units was busted when I purchased the truck about a month ago.The fit and quality were good at best maybe I was expecting to much I dont know. They are not a bad product but I expected the quality to be there since everyone rates them so highly.Just my .02 worth
Im now going to install the recon cab lights and I hope they are a quality product I hate knocking holes in my roof for a poorly made unit.
Any tips from installers that have done this before would be greatly appreciated.
Im fairly new to ford and generally only work on BMWs so I maybe over reacting a little to the new engineering.TIA
Keep in mind if someone if someone other than FORD is selling FORD products they probably have a mark up in there for profit. You can order everything that kit has direct from a ford dealership for less. The part #s for the light heads is: 6C3Z15442A and the wire harness with overhead console is: 3C3Z17C710BA. All can be purchased from directfordparts.com for $98.56 shipped. Just pick up some 5mm washers and 5mm-8 nuts at your local hardware store.
Yes I agree recon turn signal lights fit like **** If you can find some place to buy your cab lights not recon you'll be better off in the long run.
Yeah I used them too (same reason - bought the truck and they were broken) and thought the fit was marginal, at best. I made them work, but afterwards I noticed an annoying wind whistle when I had the windows open that was new. I've been thinking about caulking the gaps carefully with clear silicone to see if that eliminates it, but it's kinda moot in the Great White North in winter...Maybe next spring.
Since then I've seen a couple threads in the SD forum about poor customer service from Recon with problems. Makes me more wary now...
i love the way my recon tail lights look and work. but when i installed them i shut the tailgate super slow just to be safe. good thing i did cause the pass side was sticking out way to much and the tailgate would have craked/broke it. i had to shave off about a 1/16 of the edge to clear the tailgate.
I will definitely reconsider future purchases from recon. They cost so little to make and come with a huge price tag one just assumes they are a quality product. Live and learn I guess
