Block heater install?

Is it possible to add a block heater? If so, what would the cost be for the parts and is it a must-have-dealer-do or is it something I can swing with a bit of elbow grease? 2006 6.0L

IIRC the heater element is installed in all 6.0's, you just have to install the cord. There's a link in the tech folder.

I think the cord is 20-30 dollars at the dealer. Like mentioned above, they all have block heaters, just not the cords

I just finished installing the cord. All I can say is it is a PITA. My hands were just too big in some places and too short in others. I had the cord sitting around for a year and just never installed it. This is where I got the cord.

Thanks for all the info. I don't have the truck yet, I have my sights on one and it does not have the chord (at least I dont see it, and judging on where it is I highly doubt it has one).

I will check around.

OK Im cornfused now....

Do I just need a damn wire with a 3-blade plug (reg grounded 110) or is there some fancy cable I need to do the job? What does this "wire" plug/hook up to and how? Fancy plug connection or do I need to splice the cable in?

I found some that are like $30 and then like $70. Does one have some kind of kit where as the other just a wire?

Dude...... There are several threads about this..... search. It's a cord with a normal 110V plug on one end and some weather proof attchments on the other that hook on to the already installed block heater. The part you are looking for is located on the engine just above the starter on the pass side, looking through the space between the frame and the inner fender.
