Well after talking myself into trying to install some HD front Springs on my truck and getting some Rancho 5000 Shocks on all four corners i decided that i really have no room to do it myself because its always raining here and all i have is a rock driveway thats a friggin horry story to work on so i decided to get someone to do it.
I called my Local 4X4 parts store called "GDS-4X4" In Marryville illinois....They have Adds in some Big Time Mags. They gave me a price of $115 for the Moog springs and about $100-115 for the install with a total of 230.00 and they dont know if i need new shocks and wont know untill they get it up on the lift but i know im wanting them to also install Rancho 5000 shocks on all fours too so im guessing another half an hour's work. Now i somehow feel like a wuss by not doing the work myself but theres no way i can get it done in these work conditions.
Now im wondering if 100 an Hour is too much or should i pay it and Support the Local Guys (only 1 Min from my Home) ?? IM between a rock here and need some advice.I also was wondering about getting an alignment afterwards i know i will need one but is there a chance that after i get the springs that my truck will be so out of wack that it cant even be alligned?
Well its hard to say if its worth it....me myself i wouldn't pay 10 bucks an hour for mechanical work, but for you it might be worth 100, although 100 an hour seems kinda steep. As for the alignment, any good shop should be able to align it.
What year, model is the truck? I'm assuming coils up front, they are fairly easy to change out as long as the hardware isn't to crusty.
Shop labor seems high at $100 usually , right around $40 an hour.
Sounds like their getting around $50 a side, doesn't really sound outrageous to me.
See i dont have a Wrench that will fit in between the springs to loosen the Nut that holds them on.I have a 3/4" Drive SnapOn Set but theres no way to fit a Socket the size needed in through the springs even if there totally uncompressed much less the Ratchet head too.So i figure if it is 1-1/8" like the bottom bolt is it will be around $30-35 Just from Crapsman to get a wrench, then i need 2 more TALL jack stand's because all i Have is a Hi-Lift jack and that will run about 20-25 a pop so far im in $$70-85 just to get the stuff i will need to do the Job in my driveway.
I never thought about calling local repair shops to see if they would do it for cheaper.
you can always let them do the springs and in between rain drops you do the shocks yourself which isn't hard and you don't really even need to jack the truck up to do it. but as for $100.00 to install thesprings that really isn't to bad for $50.00/per side. I charge $45.00/hr for general mechanical work and $75.00/hour for custom fabrication work
I called a place and they gave me a Price of 236.99 For the Moog springs, Installation and an Allignment. They sound nice and they said it will take about 2hrs but they cant order Rancho so i will have to buy them and install them later.
Does this sound good, They said the Allignment was 49.99 after he gets the springs on and the springs and the install is 176.00 so thats alittle under 70.00 for installation.
