1. drain your radiator. there is a little white plastic drain plug on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. then vent the overfill (drivers side by the hood hinge)
2. after it's done draining, refill with garden hose water.
3. warm engine till nice and hot. also run your heater on max setting.
feel the radiator hose with your hand. if it's warm, you know there is coolant circulating. go about 5 minutes or so once that hose gets warm
4. allow engine to cool down.
5. drain the coolant like before.
6. refill with a Aluminum safe Antifreeze and water
where are you located?
cold climates should be a 50/50 mix
hotter climates can get away with a higher % of water...but to be safe, just run 50/50
normal antifreeze will cause corrosion and can plug up the radiator and engine.
the Prestone Antifreeze that says for GM Vehicles is safe for use in our trucks.
whatever you use, make sure to read the back label. You don't want to use the old style stuff.
7. start truck and allow to heat up to normal temps. check the overflow.
8. don't add water if the engine is hot. allow the engine to cool down so you don't get a facefull of steam.
9. repeat step 7 and step 8 until you get a consistent overflow level between the fill and max lines
^^ should get ya through it. why are you flushing it out?
