sorry am new to this site and sure this has been discussed a 1000 times but here it goes...have an 05 f250 5.4 factory exhaust..looking to upgrade to something that makes a little bit of noise..not looking to wake the dead but i would like something with a little personality.. any recommendations and how much would it cost for parts plus possible install
Hey im in the same boat with ya. I bought mine in may of this year and also would like a more aggressive tone. ive looked everywhere and it seems the only choice is flowmaster. im wondering why a fella couldnt buy a set up for a 150 5.4 and retro-fit it im thinking about taking a chance on it. I had a 04 fx4 150 and there were many after market systems available. i think the pipe sizes were the same probably the mounting brakets different. another guy on here suggested just eliminating the muffler and go with a straight pipe. that would wake up the sleepy heads.
You can do a muffler swap... any muffler thats center in/offset out would work. Just have to add some 3" pipe to make up the difference... shorter mufflers = louder
I think Dynomax and Gibson make catbacks for these trucks. If I didn't have a custom exhaust I'd probably go with the Dynomax kit and sub a Magnaflow muffler for the super turbo. I've never really been impressed with Gibsons kits... they seem to fall apart at the muffler necks.
hey boot ...this might be not allowed to say on this forum but i had a dodge and it was no where as nice as my f250 but it sounded a lot bigger than it was..my f250 sounds like a ford explorer i am having trouble finding stuff too...im not an off roader or a custom guy its just my everyday rider and i would like a more throaty sound
i paid like $60 i got it from advance auto parts with my military discount. if you get the one that is center in offset out 3" inlet/outlet you will only need a small piece of pipe to reconnect the tail pipe or you can dump it out in front of the wheel. It sounds real good i got the delta flow because it doesnt resonate as much inside the cab. Its got a nice agressive tone and if you really get on it it screams
Personally, I plan to purchase the components (all stainless steel) and have a reputable muffler shop do the install. The aftermarket offers little to nothing for the 5.4L so it's the only way that I'm going to get what I want...
X2 for Magnaflow - you can direct replace just the muffler or get a custom job done at a shop. Not that expensive for custom work - some places even cost less than the kits you can buy for other trucks and you can have it welded instead of bolt on.
