I have been considering parting with my '03 7.3 and going for the "steal of a deal" with the '08 KR 350.
I am not having any problems with my '03 but it lacks numerous things I want, such as 4 REAL doors, captain's chairs, increased carrying capacity (larger camper) and a few other things.
I have read that ppl have had this or that replaced and problems with various items such as radiators on their 6.4.
My question is this:
What exactly have the problems been that led you to having to obtain warranty service and what was the outcome?
Not just what was replaced or repaired, but why?
I'm really at odds with myself on this issue, I really want the aforementioned items and capabilities but don't want to have to keep it parked at the dealer.
I was offered a KR 350 4X4, loaded. I'd put about 14k down and make payments of about $350 a month for 60 months.
My 6.4 is still at the dealer (2 months and counting) getting a new short block. The original block had a defect in the side of the block allowing oil to leak. This could not be repaired, so they are replacing it. It is also getting a new radiator. The original radiator blew out like so many others. They are replacing headlight lenses due to leak and fogging. Poor performance has been an issue with mine, and they claim the new reflash will "fix" this, but I am skeptical. If quality is job 1 at Ford, I would hate to see what my truck would be like if it wasn't.
I'd keep the 7.3 just for the mileage. The issues are radiator, mileage and performance. My 6.0 liter had the same amount of power as the 6.4 but I went from a manual to an auto and lost a little power there. I love the 6.4 looks and guys with chips and DPF deletes seem to be happy but obviously with any car or truck there will have trucks with issues. For the most part they are not bad trucks.

Thoughts?
The rad t is one
cracked dpf is another that Ive heard of but only on this site
regen issue's
I've got only 1700 miles and have not had any issue's at this time,
If it was me with your deal I'd opt for a extended warrenty
and hope for the best.
Some guys are having issue's and some are not from what I see.
There's really no way to know what will happen with your truck.
If your looking for full proof maybe wait for another model year. The 6.4
is new for 08' and you know how it goes
Good luck w/ your decision
I love my truck and could not be happier
Yeah, it's a crap shoot I guess....
I just hate to pass up on a steal of a deal.
I told the rep the max I would pay and he said he could do better than that.....
Now that's really odd!!
I've never known a dealer to negotiate down on a sale!
