2008 250 KR w/ v10

Hi Guys -

Wife and I have been looking at 2014 250 KR with the 6.2. Now that we are really close to pulling the trigger, she is balking at the prices. <sigh>

Found a 2008 250 KR with the v10 and 4.10 axle with about 30K on the clock. Has a gooseneck hitch, so I have no idea what kind of abuse the tranny has seen, although the truck from the outside appearance looks pretty clean

Current TT is a 7300 lb toyhauler, which I know the truck will pull without issue. From researching, it sounds like the only major problems the V10 has is plugs stripping out and the exhaust manifold studs rotting out. Is there anything else about the v10 that I'm missing? MPG's are about the same as our current 97 ram 5.9 gasser so I'm not to hung up on that.

What are the thoughts on this truck? It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that I want that the newer trucks have, but the price makes my wife happy

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

My personal opinion, you can't go wrong.
The cost of maintenance is less than a diesel as is the price 99 the fuel .
The spark plugs have been a problem, that has been resolved.
Exhaust studs aren't that big of a deal either .

I have a 2014 F250 KR FX4 6.7. It was expensive for sure. But, it was worth it. I don't like to buy used so I always pay a little bit more. I don't man. If your wife is not happy with the pricing, than i guess you have to keep her happy. But, if your the primary driver on the insurance, I'd go for the 2014.

I love my 2008 V-10 and you will too. None of the earlier spark plug problems and none of the issues and expense of a diesel. I have 131,xxx totally trouble free miles and at least 1/2 are towing an 8500# Airstream all over the country. The only thing you should add if you buy the V-10 is a tune from Mike's 5 Star. Just go the official Ford web site and do a search on the TSB's for the V-10 vs every other engine out there. That should help with your decision.

Go with the 08 V10, Its a setup for towing, With the gears you should be able to tow heavy with no issues. In my eyes even though I have a 14 F250 I don't like the transmissions, Personally Id take the 08

Ive owned both. Had a 2001 v10 thing was a beast loved it.

The 6.7 will crush souls. Trust me.

Those with V10 will tell you v10. Those with 6.7 will tell you 6.7. Those who have had both will most limey tell you 6.7 all day every day till you die.

The OP is looking at gas trucks, diesels are irrelevant. Although I wish I got the 6.7 vs my 6.2

Thanks Guys - I appreciate the responses. I have driven the 6.7 and LOVE the power , but we don't tow enough yet to justify that extra expense. My biggest concern was the spark plug issues, and it sounds like its a moot point on the later versions of the v10.

We'll have to make an appt to give a test ride.

thanks again...

I had a '08 V10 and currently have a '13 6.2 I would choose the V10 any day over the 6.2. The torque of the V10 is excellent and is a much better engine for towing. I also like the 5r110 transmission better than the current 6r140.
As far as spark plugs, if it has a build date later than June of '07 there are no issues. If it has a earlier build date the just change the plugs at 50k intervals and you wont have any issues. Changing plugs at 50k intervals applies to all modular engines.

Take the V10, the 6.2 is for pansies. It can't pull itself out of wet grass. I have had both side by side and the V10 is a beast. I drive the 6.2 every day for work and hate it with a passion, there is no way I would ever pay my good money for one. BTW, it has the 4.30's for towing as well.

I wish they still offered the V10 and the 5R110 in the F250/350 trucks. I like the 6.2 but I have my doubts on the reliability. They really haven't had the 6.2 on the market for that long compared to the V10.

Get the 08 V10. And like pappy said get a tune from Mike at 5 star and then just enjoy you saved a bunch of money and have a better looking truck.

It's only coming out in it's fifth model year that's about to hit the lots. Almost as long as the 2V V10 was around. And as long as the V10 3V/ 5R110W combo?

In general the V10 as a whole has been around since 98 in the E series and 99 in the SD. The general idea with V10's is they are pretty reliable and there's a few running around town with 250,000+ miles on them.

I really have my doubts about the 6R140 though. They are constantly shifting and It feels like it can never pick a gear. Its always hunting unless I put it in manual mode or tow haul.
