F150 - FXR - 5.4L I've been having problems lately with my truck when starting (cold or warm) in the beginning it is sometimes slow to crank over (for the first couple of seconds) and then it cranks and starts.
However, this morning after driving it for an hour I went to start it and it wouldn't crank at all, I tried to boost it with a small car and it wouldn't even come close. It was almost like the starter had a dead spot. i tapped the starter and the solenoid...and nothing.
So...I called CAA to tow it home and he gave me a boost and it fired immediately. Since then I tested my alternator (across the battery with it running) and it is putting out between 13-14 V. Does this seem to you like the battery is shot?
I seen this on a tractor one time. It is possible to have the correct voltage, but if there is no amprage, or if the battery is shot, it still won't crank. It is like having a bullet without gunpowder in it! I suggest you take it to shucks or a parts store and have them run a (Free) battery test on it.
