Help, Tires for a 2003 F150 Sport 2wd supercab???

I am looking for tire recommendations for a 2003 F-150 supercab Sport model, 2WD.

I love this tire that came on the truck, BF-Goodrich Longtrail A/T. They now have 76,000 miles on them. I'd love to replace them with the same tire. They still have tread left, quite deep actually, but the insides of all 4 tires wore, but wire is showing on all 4 on the inside. This has been nothing but a ROAD (pavement) truck for my wife.

I suppose it now needs a tire alignment once I put the new tires on it??? Why else would ALL FOUR wear like this? Any "suggestions" to prevent this in the FUTURE?

The Sport model F-150 with the upgraded rims has an odd size tire. A P265-60 17" tire. The "60" being the odd part. More typical for the tire shops around here to have a 70 in such a size tire.

BF-Goodrich does not make this tire anymore, but have upgraded to the same tire, same name. I can't find out if it has the same specifications tho.

So before I take the BF-Goodrich route, I would like some recommendations for any tires for my truck.

All suggestions welcome.

Oh yeah, I do realize since I am going against the 60 size tire I will have to have my speed guage adjusted with the computer at Ford, or just live with the difference.

I just checked Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and they have BFG Longtrail's for $118 each on there at 275/60/17. They would fit just fine.

I would have the shop check the alignment on the truck after the tires are on. It could be whacked out and if it is, def get that done.

i put 33" Cooper S/T's on my truck, i would recommend you getting the same tire in a radial. they made my truck ride better. and it is hard to spin out (i've tried). they have tremendous grip. and they last for a while. the reason i got mine was, i saw a guy with them on his truck and i was talking to him about them, and they had 40,000 miles on them and they looked brand new.

Suggestions for the future of whatever tires you get, check the pressures often (you can run them from 35 psi and up depending on what you do with the truck) rotate every 10,000 get your wheel alignment checked from time to time (some places will do for free) and get the rest of your front end components checked from time to time.

The reason all tires were worn out on the inside is because the front end is out of alignment. When the tires on the front wear out the inside, then you rotated them onto the back... it makes it look like the rear is out of alignment too, but in reality it isnt(and cant be)

Just get a alignment and new tires.

Also I doubt you could fit 33s on your truck. I believe the "sport" models are slightly lower than a normal f-150.

Thanks for the helpful information Bobby.

Hey I see you are changing your rearend.

That is quite the low gears.........

Have you drove one with gears that low?

If one does a lot of highway driving, are they going to suffer and lose a lot of top end? I don't know how the transmission handles this.

Thanks

Thanks, they have great prices until you get the shipping added on. I guess I'll be better off sticking local.

I wish that place was local! lol

I decided to go for 4.56s over 4.10s for a few reasons...
- I hardly ever drive on the interstate
- I tow heavy loads occasionally and it struggles now with the 285/75/16s
- I'm fed up with it being sooo damn slow

With my current tire size and 4.56s I estimate I will turn somewhere near 2700-2800 rpms at 75mph. Currently I run 2000rpms at around 75mph.

You are correct about losing top end, I am going to lose alot. With my current setup I can run over 75mph in 2nd gear and I can hit around 110mph in 3rd. With 4.56s those numbers will be much better.
