Ford 10.25 & 10.50-Inch Axle Tips - Four Wheeler Magazine

I was wondering about the 10.25 hubs going on to the 10.5...then getting disks with 8x6.5 pattern.
Opp's I meant hubs. I've had axles re-drilled so i assumed the hubs could be too.
There are no splines one the outer end, just a flange w/ 8 holes.
If the wheel bearings are the same then the hubs might swap onto the new axle?? If not
Maybe the spindles will swap?? Lots of measuring to see if it's possible.
Moving the spring perches & shock mounts is not a big deal for me.
A disc brake conversion is looking better all the time. That's the only reason I wanted to swap the axles.

IF the wheel flange is in a different position from the two hubs then the hat distance on the rotor will be incorrect.

If thats the case....why are we not looking for an axle from an '99+ E-series....assuming they went to a 10.5 w/disks?????I am sure there are alot out there between church buses and delivery trucks......It would be an easier swap if we just have to move perches and shock mounts

I believe the 99+ are the metric bolt pattern. IDK though. I am confused on it as well. I was looking for the rotors to do a rear disc conversion like TJ did but could never find a year or the rotors. The parts stores I wend too all showed drums for 97 and erlier and metric disc from 98 on.

What year do do you get the E-series rotors from TJ?

If the hubs can be re-drilled that would be easy......I think they are cast though??????I am not sure how strong they would be with 8 extra holes drilled in them.

I remember after Tims post hearing that the vans stayed 8x6.5....not sure how long....may still be that way now......check for '00 E350 rotors

Yep, cast steel. They can be drilled even if they are cast iron. Like I said, I've re-drilled axles w/o trouble. My axles held up to 650HP+....w/massive slicks, and wheel standing launches.

I'm doing this instead:

Are those rotors the same as the E-series? It would suck to have to speacial order rotors when you need them.

I'll bet they are off the shelf parts. More than likely for a van.
I don't think the seller of the conversion kits had them made up special.

The van use a Dana rear axle. Completely different axles

My rotors are from 96 DRW but I am quite sure that all e-series even to current are still standard bolt pattern

whats wrong with the 10.25 axle? i have never seen one burned up yet. unless you run them out of oil, and even then the hub bearings will go out first and the rear end is fine. as for drum brakes, they last longer than disk brakes and are cheaper to replace. dont want an arguement because i dont really care what you do to your truck, but it seems like a lot of work and no gain. disk brakes you have to change to a hydroboost brake master cylinder unit as well as mess with the rabs system. your looking at spending 2g plus pay yourself time to do it all. just put a arb air locker in it and go. thats what im gunna do soon as i get a grand to spend

No need for hydroboost or to do anything with the ABS. The 10.25 is a great axle but drum brakes don't stop as well as disc brakes and I don't see where they are any more expensive to repair. Also the main topic of discussion is putting the 10.5 differential into the 10.25 because it is a more robust limited slip unit.
