i took the muffler off my 97 4.6 expy and replaced it with a cherry bomb glasspack, it was a 24" long glasspack, then i cut about 7" off the rear tailpipe and mounted a 3" chrome slant cut tip. i was surprised how good the exhaust sounds with just a cherrybomb in place of the muffler. pretty aggressive sound when getting on it but cruising its fairly quiet, not bad for less then a hours worth of work and like $30
yeah i was gonna do a straight pipe but i thought it mite be a lil to much for my tastes, the lil one gets driven around alot in this truck so i didnt want it to loud. i had a 2000 f150 4.6 that had duals from a single inlet , dual outlet flowmaster , it wasnt even as loud as this cherrybomb single is

Do you have a glass pack, or a baffled muffler?
Glasspacks help carry sound farther, I noticed. I wish I had just gone with a $30 glass pack now that I know what I do.
Where did you get that glasspack? All I could get from Advanced was 31'' or so. If I do go with a glass pack in the future, I would want to go short; like 12'' or so.
my local pepboys has a bunch in stock, i dont think they got 12" though in a cherry bomb, shortest i saw was like 20" but they mite have one that size that can be ordered probably

I put a cb#87096 under my expy and made it sound mean. Everything lined up with minimal work. Just cut the front pipe off in front of the weld (muffler conection) and behind the rear weld (on the muffler connection) about 1 inch. It might help to loosen up the rubber hangers (spray some wd40 to make it easier to slide the hangers off). Hook everything back up and clamp it tight (need 1 2-1/2 & 1 2-1/4 clamp). I got my muffler from Autozone. Sorry no sound clips or pics available.
heres some quick pics i snapped, again its a 24" long cherry bomb, 2-1/4 inlet/outlet, basically just cut the muffler off and this fit rite in its place, i think the muffler was 20" and i cut like a inch or so away from the muffler, doubt it was a stocker but prolly a autozone replacement or something so not sure how big the stock muffler is. then i cut a few inches off the rear tail and put a 3" slant cut tip on. no sound clips, i tried but its to windy out and all i got was wind noise. ill do it later from in the truck driving
Let me just say I absolutely looooooooooooove glasspacks and Cherry Bombs are by far my favorite. I run the 12"ers on my red truck and 8"ers on my Bronco. The best sounding and loudest I've ever heard (even louder than Aerochamber, and cheaper). It's even more awesome that you threw them on an Expy...cograts and they only get better with age...rep given for putting them on the expy...you're a trend setter.
Where did you get your short glass packs? I can't find any real short packs.
try pepboys too if you have a local one in your area, my local pepboys carries all cherrybumb mufflers and glasspacksso they are probably a big supplier for them
