Rear lift struts

The struts on my exes rear lift door gave up and so I ordered a set off line. I got them and they were not even close to what is on there and wouldnt work. I called company and was told they WERE the replacement struts for 2000 ex. I sent them back and got refund. (Sachs Stabilus OEM Lift O Mat)
I ordered another set from another company and they were the EXACT same thing I had returned to last company. Return in process. Went through AutoZone and same thing, diff name but same design.
I am getting used to the sawed off 2x4 that holds door open for hay loading etc but why are the three sets I bought not compatible to my ex?
Has anyone bought a set that actually fit? If so where did you order them from?
My ex has two round ends on the struts. the ones I have been getting have one round end and one flat end.

I had to replace mine a few months back. I got them at NAPA store. They didn't have in stock at my local store, but their warehouse is only a few miles away, so I picked them up there. PERFECT FIT!!!

Good luck!!

Read this link. Several places to purchase from. Also describes install and results from various members. Several bought from ebay including myself. Prices vary.

Take one off and go hand it to the parts guy at your choice of auto parts stores. He can match it up.

YC3Z78406A10AA for the 2wd list is $35.62 ea

YC3Z78406A10BA for the 4wd list is $38.15 ea

if you use the 4x4 style it will give you a extra inch or two in height.

Isn't it the other way around? Don't the 2wd style give you the extra lift and the 4wd that don't go up as high??

I wonder how I can find out if this is true? I keep hitting my darn head on it and if the 2wd ones are higher then I will get some.

The 2wd lift supports give you more clearance on a 4x4 vehicle.

An easy way to remember which is which is to remember when ford built these trucks they designed em to fit into your typical parking garage. Usually a 7'2" clearance. Now the 4X4 sits higher naturaully, so if the tailgate went up high it would hit the garage roof and scratch it. So the 4X4 got slightly shorter rods to protect it from hitting the roof. The 2 wheel drives sat lower, and had more room to raise the glass higher, so they got slightly longer rods. This is how I kepe it straight in my head at least.
