Backspacing....CONFUSED!!!!!

Backspacing....CONFUSED!!!!!
I have a 1978 ford f150. Looking to get new tires and wheels for it. It has a 9in skyjacker lift, and want 40x17 hawgs on 16.5x12 wheels. should i just buy wheels with the same backspacing as the stock wheels? What about offset? I am so confused about these two things. Thanks

Did you find some wheels that had the correct bolt pattern or did you change the axles to 8 lug? Most 16.5" wheels have an 8 lug pattern.
