BTW, this is the real reason why it stopped leaking. Good 'ol Murphy's Law.

Update on the gasket: Autozone shows no gaskets (Fel-Pro or otherwise) for the Sterling. Their computer says there is nothing available but goop in a tube.

Is this what you used at first?

http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...one_Gasket.htm

Because this is what I used with no gasket and it worked flawlessly.

an '08 diff cover as well.

Yep, that's what I used. I'm going to give it another go this weekend. I figure that even though it's not leaking right now, it's degraded so I'll start from scratch and have another go at it.

I did the set up and procedure as you but I used the RTV from the dealer, Not sure what it was. It was black/grey and pricey as I remember. Hasent leaked so far..been a year of towing 2-3 times a week.
Good luck with the re-do, must have been a fluk?

Ok, I've used that stuff on a lot of cars with great results. Just sealed up my oil pan on my beater POS Honda Accord and not a drop so far from that pig.

Bummer. I guess I should revise that to read "they used to" carry a diff cover gasket. Sorry about that.

Interesting that the aftermarket covers listed on their website come with a gasket.
