no heat

I lost heat on way to work. I had the defroster on and the frost was melting before I left the house. about half way to work felt some cooler air ,it was comming from the defroster. The temp gauge look normal. outside temp was in the 30"s. would it be the heater core ? or something else?

I would think it would be a water pump issue, or the heater core is plugged up. How long have you owned the truck? If you just recently bought it, the water may be turned off going to the heater core. I installed a shut off valve on one of my heater hoses to stop the hot water from circulating in the heater core in the summer to make the A/C work better. Did someone install something like that on your truck?

OK, I'm not familiar withthe 6.0's, but does the temperature selector on the dash move a valve that regulates the water flow in the heater core?

Something else to check, can you turn other items on with the temperature controlls, like your A/C, heater, vent, etc? If it is stuck on defrost, then the problem is with the controls, possible vaccum pump.

outside temp is the key here. with it that cold, the outside air could be cooling the engine down enough. i have had 3 with no heat in the summer time and all three were the water pump. it is a plastic impeller and the impeller strips out and wont turn.

I know I have run the truck in colder weather and had no issues
how would I trouble shoot the water pump?

Did you by any chance check the degas bottle to see if you are low on coolant? With those temps you may not overheat the engine but not have enough coolant to warm the cab. I have seen that happen before. Sometimes the obvious gets overlooked.

Keep an eye on the coolant level. That much low and you very well could have other problems.......

Also, the water pump could still be an issue. As BTH said, the plastic impeller is a common problem. You might check the coolant pressure.
