I have a 2003 F-350 w/ a 5.4, I am looking into installing a stereo system and many off road lights. I am wondering is their a larger alternator I can purchase or what are my options? I am going to be upgrading the ground system and adding a secondary / larger alternator positive wire to help with the efficiency / charging.
I recently contacted PowerMaster and was informed that they will have a 200W alternater for the F250 / F350 in 2009. However, I specifically asked about the 2005 F350 w/ 5.4L engine...
I am looking into installing a 8 gauge power wire directly from the alternator to the batter to help with the charging efficiency (I have an 04' SVT Focus which I installed an underdrive pulley and had a little bit of a charging loss due to being a 1 piece kit, I installed a power wire and it helped out!) the thing I am not sure about is installing a fuse or a load protector thats a lot of amperage to find a compatible fuse.

OEM wiresize is a #6. If you're doing anything-change it to a #4 or larger.

Fuse protection for the secondary wire from the alternator to the battery, I want to leave the stock one on / then add a second wire to help with the alternator efficiency. I am also going to be upgrading the grounds.

Replace the OEM wire with a larger wire. It's fuse protected through the studs on the distribution block. No need to use another fuse or the expense of it.
