So I had an issue where the battery was draining and the battery was deemed bad due to a bad diodes in the alternator. I purchase the replacement and when I get home the new alternator has like 8 ribs on the pulley where as the original has 5 ribs. I go back the the auto store and two more replacements have the wider/deeper pulley but yet the replacement belt from the same store is the correct width. The sales guy looks up an alternator for the F150 and it matches mine original. Does anyone know if I have an odd ball alternator in my 5.4 Expy or what vehicle is the larger pulley for?
I had to check when I ordered mine as I saw I had a choice. Your parts store should have given you better info, the 2002 has the same options. Check the link for an example.
Why did he look up an alternator for an F-150 when you have an Expedition?
Thanks for the help. He only looked up the F150 because nothing he had in stock for the expy had the correct pulley, so he thought perhaps he could find an alternate number under something else with a 5.4.
