ok guys here is what i have going. I got my Rosewood stage 1's installed and now I cant get the truck to start. I have oil at both rear plugs when i crank it. The glow plugs were just changed last year, but they got soaked with oil when i removed the injectors. Could this be a problem? What about a sensor or something? While the injectors were away at Jims i replaced the turbo pedastal o-rings and HPOP gaskets. I cranked and cranked on it tonight for about two hours and didnt even get a sputter out of it. The needle on the tach moves slightly while it is trying to start, so I didnt think it would be the CPS. Any suggestions?? Thanks
did you get oil from the front plug as well?? you also must pull the oil plug from the front of the motor too so you can get the rest of the air out of the system
Any smoke at all from the tailpipe? Make sure all the electrical connections are plugged in, especially the IPR and check the sheetmetal nut on the back of it. Are you sure you have the hpop drive gear seated and tight. After that many tries your batteries are probably low, are you using a booster? Does the oil level in the hpo reservoir drop after you try to start it.
Did you plug in the UVC's. What gaskets did you replace on the HPOP? Did you get the gear on tight? IPR plug......Oh wait, if you pulled the fuel bowl, did you plug the harness on the pass side back in?
Im not seeing any smoke at all from the tailpipe. When i removed the hpop i never messed with the IPR i just unplugged it and took it off with the HPOP. Im pretty sure all the electrical connections are good, I went over it 2 or 3 times. Im not sure about the gear on the HPOP it seemed to go together ok, although when i went to torque the gear retaining nut the motor turned over..... I dont know if that means anything or not. Thanks

Im pretty sure i got the gear on right. If i didnt wouldnt it make a noise or not pump any oil? Which harness on the pass side do you mean?
there is an electrical connection on the passenger side of the fuel bowl that has to be plugged in. if it's not then the truck won't start at all. make sure that is plugged in.
ok now i know which one you mean. I checked it several times and it is plugged in. Truck ran perfect before i pulled the injectors, now i cant get it to start at all.
if you have checked every electrical connection and nothing is unplugged. then the HPOP gear may not have seated correctly, but i haven't dug into an HPOP yet so i'm not sure how to know for sure.
Do you have any means to check pressures? I would be curious about the hpop and fuel pressures, maybe a seal got cut. Also check your connectors, I once had a pin on a connection push out so it lost contact even when the connector was tight.
Are the valve covers still off? Check and see if there's oil from all the spill spouts, and look to see if oil is coming from around the injector body in case you damaged one of the top rings. What's the fuel pressure while cranking?
Matt, the HPOP gear is really a stretch I guess. When I do them, I try to tighten it in almost a jerking, or quick pushing fashion. I can't ever remember the real torque spec, but a good grunt will get you in the ball park. And if you have at least that much on it, I wouldn't think it's the gear. But it's an idea.
But Rodney makes a good point, check to see if oil is coming out the injector spouts. If not, at that point, I would pull the IPR solinoid and look for a bent pin in the connector, and after that, maybe pull the gear cover, have someone hold the crank bolt and put some more funk on that gear bolt. But also, make sure it's spinning up good. Low batts will get you for sure.
I have an external fuel gauge mounted in place of the scrader valve. I had 50 PSI or so tonite while cranking it. I will pull the valve covers tomorrow and check for oil coming out of the oil spouts.
P.S. I finally did get the gear retaining nut torqued to 95 ft/lbs. by just kinda jerking on it.
