I have a 99 ranger 3.0 where the 4 wheel drive will not engage. When i flip the switch I do not hear any sounds or any relays engaging. How do I test the 4x4 motor on the transfer case to see if it is bad. Where is the 4x4 control module located??
The 98-2000 ranger 4x4 used the pluse vacume hub system that is very problematic. An easy fix is a set of manual AVM hubs for 100 bucks from telico off road. With that said, you can have some one lay under the truck as you turn the dial, they should be able to hear the shift motor engage at the t-case. Another way is to pull the shift motor, hook the juce back up to it. Have some one watch and listen as you move the dial to see if the shift motor is operating. If it is, it's more than likely the pulse vacume hub system.
When I turn the switch none of the lights turn on and I do not hear any noises. would a bad motor cause the entire system to not work? Where is the pulse vacume hub located.
If it was the pulse vacume hubs, the shift motor would still engage, but it won't go into
4wd. The hubs will fail because of a vacume leak thats hard to pin point as even the hubs them selves are part of the vacume system and could be leaking. Thats why it's just easier to replace them with the AVM manual hubs and do away with the vacume system all together. However as Rockledge has pointed out, it seems your probem maybe electrical, as you have no indicater light or nothing.
