Flywheel help

Got my truck up to the local repair shop, it's a good shop have had them do work for me before, much better and more reasonable than the Ford Stealership.. Having clutch work done as the throwout bearing has been making a lot of noise. Man calls me this morning and says he think it's a good idea to replace the flywheel as well.. Ford Stealership says 1400 for the flywheel

Ouch!! Where can I get one that's good for less than that?

Get a single mass flywheel! They are cheaper and better. Valair will sell you the whole kit clutch and all. If you already have bought the clutch you may have to take it back because I don't think the SMF and DMF clutches are interchangeable. If you really want a DMF I have one you can have for free but with the weight the shipping would be a beast.

Agreed, trash the DMF and go with a SMF, LUKL also make good clutches and Carolina Clutch has reasonable prices on them.

I think I'm going to have to stay with the DMF...Had the shop put in a clutch kit and they turned the flywheel, now it's making noises and the truck vibrates, took it back. Parts he put in were from NAPA, mechanic now says he will put in Ford OE clutch parts and NAPA will cover the labor...If I put on a SMF I'll have to have an entirely different clutch kit and will probably have to pay the extra labor myself... Ouch, what a mess I've gotten myself into..

Valair has DMF I can get for $750 That's better than Fords 1400 that's for sure...

Neal what shape is your DMF in,, and what would it cost to ship to Wi? I'd want to pay you something for it....

My flywheel is in decent shape. It had about 60,000 miles on it. It doesn't have any cracks or it doesn't look like it has been too hot. The clutch however did slip a little every now and then as you can see on the surface. Personally I would have it turned if it were me. You can have it free but them things are pretty heavy.

If you want I can pull it out this weekend and see about shipping. PM me your zip if you definately want it.

To be honest, that is the way I would go too. Even with the extra labor and/or parts costs you will be miles ahead anyway.

95, if you haven't bought your clutch yet, do this. Call Dan Vallance at Valair. Talk to him or Kevin. Tell him Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you and they will give you a smokin' deal on a clutch. Or you can ask where his nearest dealer is. Dan has dealers everywhere. But tell him I sent ya. Hope that helps.

Thanks Rubber Duck!! I talked to Kevin this afternoon, he gave me the name and number of a dealer nearby, I'll call them tomorrow. I also got a quote on a Luk flywheel and clutch from carolina clutch. I'll get the package ordered tomorrow from one or the other..

Reps sent to you and Neal.

OOps, I guess that won't work if you go through one of his dealers......or maybe it can. All you can do is ask him. I bet he could set something up. Then after he does, ask him if he's from Canada...LMAO He's soooo Austraillian, but I like to poke fun at him. If he gets worked up, just blame it on me. I'm actually going to the Valair shop on Wed. to pick up some goodies, so I'm sure he'll be harassing me too. LOL

I gave Kevin alot of grief about the Canadian thing when I ordered mine. He got a big kick out of it.

Thanx for the reps by the way, not necessary but very much appreciated.
