A4OD computer

I need a little info about the computer control with this computer. I have a 84 Lincoln with a 302 and A4OD that I am wanting to swap into another vehicle that does not have any computer controls. I am going to rebuild the engine to around 250 horse and have it carbed, but want the 4 speed auto transmition. Are there stand alone computers for these transmitions or am I going to have to swap in the original EEC and make it work.

I am not a transmission expert but if yours is an E4OD you certainly can get a stand-alone controller for it (about $500, I think) and 250hp should be no problem.

In '84 that would be an AOD transmission. It did not use any computer controls, it just used a cable to the throttle body or carburetor.

+1.. the E4OD didn't even exist until 1989, and the AOD-E until '91, those were the first 2 computer controlled trannys. BTW.. if you don't get close to 300hp out of that motor you're doing somthing wrong, a decent cam, intake and exhaust system is all you need to get most of that.
