fuel line heater

We had the old fuze #22 problem. fuel line heater bad. I could not unplug the heater at the fuel bowl(seamed to be stuck or melted), so I depinned at harness disconnect on passenger side of bowl. Went to ford to get new element, 3 times later and me giving the part # , I've got it. Is this the right part# F5TZ-9J294A . This is a round disc with wire soldered to it and a wire pigtail.Next question is does this go under the fuel filter or where? We also got the harness from ford,by mistake on the second ordering, but because the plug seams bad we kept. This is a 1997 f250

The fuel heater elememt goes in the bottom of the fuel filter housing and is held in by the stand pipe. Remove fuel filter housing cover, drain fuel filter housing using water drain valve, remove filter, unscrew stand pipe "CAUTION LEFT HAND THREADS", diconnect fuel heater and remove fuel heater. Reassemble in reverse order.

I do not have access to my part numbers right now.

Yes F5TZ-9J294-A is the correct fuel heater for a 94-97.

Welcome to the forum. Where do you live? Unless you live in alaska or north dakota just leave it disconnected. I live in indiana and we get temps in the single digits and mine has been unhooked 3 years. You will get enough heat off the engine since the bowl sits in the engine valley.

the wiring harness plug might be an issue. should i keep at replacing it or leave alone? The assembly on side of filter bowl that harness plugs into is plastic and probably a dealer item ( that means it will probably take another half dozen times to get correcy part)

I have not been on site for sometime. I sold this truck to a friend, but seam to still have to work on it. I purchased a 1979 f250 extracab 4x4. this was what I originally wanted. plans are a 7.3 non powerstroke conversion(I believe simpler and then ad turbo)

I told the new owner the same, but he said he still wanted to replace the element. the truck starts a little hard in mornings with temps in the 20's. it takes a couple cycles of glow plugs.I replaced the glow plugs about 4 months ago, had 3 bad ones. during normal weather, starts good.

is he waiting the full cycle????glow plug cycle is 120 seconds....the light stays on for 15-20 sec(watch the volt meter).........We have been in the 20's at night and I let it cycle for about 90 sec and she fires right up

X2 to what ron86toy said watch the volt meter and let the glow plugs go through the full cycle and he should not have a problem.

No, I believe he is waiting for light to go out then cranking.I will tell him to watch volt gauge before starting.I just got off phone with him and talked him out of replacing element right now. He does plug truck in when its stays in the 20's consistent.does make a big difference. When I had truck and before I replaced glow plugs, I kept plugged in during cold for about 2 mons and power bill went up about 40.00. /month. Is this about right for current draw on block heater? He has it on a timer for aprox 3hrs before start.

Good call, Replacing the fuel bowl heater will not help his cold start issue.
The block heater is rated at 12-1500 watts....That's a pretty big draw on the ole
electric bill if it's plugged in all the time.
