I got into an accident today and the only real damage is to my aluminum grill thing, the name escapes me right now. After seeing an oem one is 500 dollars i have a sudden urge to attempt to fix it myself. Has anyone had any luck doing this or have any advice for me?
Digital camera hasnt been working lately but do you have a definition for each of those things. The damage extends about four inches up and 2 inches wide at it's widest.
Just my $.02, but sometimes the result of the accident looks more pleasant to the eyes than somebody who took an everyday ballpeen hammer and tried to correct themselves. You'll always be able to tell the person "tried" to fix it and failed. Better to leave the mess alone than to try an correct it.
Like Utfball68 stated, better to leave it alone, buy a cheap knock-off (150-200), scavenge the wrecking yard for passable shell (50-100) or pony up the bucks for an OEM replacement (450-600).
Don't forget shipping too, that's where they get ya!
Purdy but not for me. I like the contrast of aluminum to paint.
paint sometimes is cheaper than fixing the problem with an expensive part...
more food for thought, pound the dents out, massage the metal, sand it down alot, and zap the shell with ez off, polish, cover with clear....
If the damage isn't too bad, you can take a hammer and a couple of paint paddles and straighten it out. Put the paint paddles on both sides of the damage when knocking it out to keep from leaving hammer tracks....
