as opposed to using an ad a leaf kit or replacing the leaf springs as a whole.... I need to recover about 2 inches in the back due to saggy leaf springs....any thoughts?
Rear leaf springs out of an explorer are supposed to give it lift..
Might give it to much. Might not. Usually they give it an 1 1/2 or 2 above factory stock height. At least mine did. Little stiffer ride but some people like that.
The easiest would be adding an overload spring. They aren't to hard to install. It would probably stiffen the ride some but it is probably already "soft" due to the saggy springs.
You could also install a 2 inch lift blocks to get it back up to proper height but you'd need to change out the u-bolts for longer ones.
I swapped in explorer springs all the way around my '89 BII. Definitely stiffens the ride up, But it's not as stiff as helper springs that I have dealt with before. Also I bought my springs for under $100 for all four off an explorer with less than 30k miles. Not sure what helper springs will run you. Just my $.02
