98 F150 5.4 4x4 automatic
Have you had the injectors professionally cleaned?
Our shop had a 1988 F150 with the 302 that had a miss at that speed. Dealer tried plugs, wires etc, checked trans and torque converter but nothing helped until they cleaned the injectors. Had about same miles at the time too as yours.
Put an injector in her! Get access to a scan tool, not a code reader. Do a misfire monitor to find out which cyl is missing. Then swap your injector with another one on that same bank. when the misfire moves to that new bank, you know it's the injector.
or you can save yourself the hassle and just put the injector in!! Go OEM though, none of that aftermarket crap. Or you'll be brinin it to me at the dealership and I'm just gonna tell you to pay me to put OEM injector in it. haha!
I had the same problem a couple years ago, took the IAC valve out and sprayed the inside with throttle body cleaner and let it soak a half hour, resprayed, shook out. I also may have moved the valve by pressing on it with my fingers, while wet, but I can't be sure on this point. Rapping on it with a screw driver handle sometimes made the missing go away, was worse on cool mornings.
Wouldn't Torque Converter lock-up, have other symptoms? Such as truck acting like it has a mind of its own and is going to charge thru a red light, if on level ground, light load, slowly accelerate to a certain point, then it's "Charge ahead " Engine speeding up and slowing down, all on its own. Would only stumble and miss after it had been at a higher speed, not from a dead stop after a restarting of the engine.
