On the 80 through 86 Series, are the frame perch for the engine mounts all located in the same position on the frame regardless of which engine was there from the factory?
In the posts I have read so far, users only talk about changing mounts, so my guess is the frame perch are all located the same?
In my experience, the perches for 3.8's, 300 sixes, and small block V8's all attach at the same spots and can be swapped out. In fact must be swapped out if you're swapping in an engine among the three engine types. Which I have done.
I can't say for the big block and diesel engines but I suspect their perches stil rivet and bolt into the same frame holes.
I'm not sure I'll make the swap but it would be a fun experiment for me since I now have a pretty good 5.8 cu.in. to use. To me half the fun of owning a rig is to work on it...:-)
I'm not so sure the 300 6 frame perches are the same as the 302/351W/351M/400 perches. They may attach to the frame the same, but the perch will have to match the engine, IIRC.
